Getting rid of mushrooms in your lawn requires treating both the symptoms and the cause.

A few things you can do to keep mushrooms under control:

1. Remove any visible mushrooms.

Toss them aside. To stop the spread of spores, remove mushrooms as soon as you see them.

Find a bag for your lawnmower and use it: Pick up any mushrooms you find while mowing the grass and put them in a mower bag to keep the spores from spreading.

2. Make lawn drainage easier.

Moist, wet conditions are ideal for mushroom growth. Aerating the grass is one way to improve drainage. Aeration improves drainage and keeps the soil from becoming too saturated.

Stop watering too much: Never water your yard more than it needs, and do it only when absolutely required.

3. Minimize Organic Waste

Mushrooms eat decomposing organic material. It would be beneficial to reduce this food source.

Grass and remove leaves: Pick up any plant droppings that fall on your yard.

Cut the grass short: mushrooms thrive in areas where thatch accumulates, a coating of decaying lawn and other organic debris. Eliminating it may stunt their development.

Clear any tree stumps or rotting timber; mushrooms love to thrive in damp, dark places where wood is breaking down.

4. Fertilize with Nitrogen

Nitrogen has the ability to hasten the breakdown of organic materials, which in turn diminishes the food supply for mushrooms. To help stop growth, apply a nitrogen-rich fertilizer to your grass in the spring.

5. Keeping Your Lawn Looking Great

Regular mowing is essential for a healthy grass. Reduce the potential for mushrooms to develop in shaded spots by keeping the grass at an appropriate height.

Promoting the use of natural light: Make sure your grass receives adequate sunshine by eliminating things that obstruct it or pruning back trees that provide shadow. Mushrooms, on the other hand, love shade.

6. Do not use fungicides.

Generally, it is advised against using fungicides on lawns to suppress mushrooms. Although they may short-term eliminate the mushrooms, they will not tackle the root causes of their proliferation.

Over time, you may control the development of mushrooms by controlling moisture, minimizing organic trash, and maintaining a healthy grass.
